2007 jeep wrangler review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. It's an anachronism, and should probably be a dinosaur, but no, it's still popular because it fills a need like no other vehicle. Despite its inherent design limitations (we won't call them flaws), primarily balance and storage, the wrangler delivers inimitable fun. Challengers have not been able to steal from the allure of the jeep. The dynasty lives on.  jeep engineers have kept the momentum rolling by making timely improvements. It's a perfect fit for the times. It doesn't change or pervert the character of wrangler at all, it just makes the vehicle more attainable, and more desirable for many. It's much more comfortable and convenient, and holds way more stuff, including happy passengers.  maybe best of all, a lot more content has been added, especially in the areas of comfort, safety and convenience; and there has been an average price reduction of $1200 down the line.  each of the six models of the wrangler uses the same new engine, a 3. 8-liter v6 making 12 more horsepower than the previous trusty inline-6 that's been around for more than 20 years. It has the same peak torque but at a higher range, and that detracts some from the wrangler's uphill performance; but gas mileage is about the same, at 16 city and 19 highway for the 4x4. There are also a dana 44 rear axle, trak-lok anti-spin differential, 16- or 17-inch aluminum wheels, electronic front sway bar disconnect, trailer tow group, tow hooks, engine block heater, and locking fuel filler cap.  the sahara 19,345) is the premium model in the lineup, and adds the sunrider top, the electronic stability program, electronic roll mitigation, 17-inch aluminum wheels with goodyear wrangler tires, body-colored fender flares, tubular side steps, heavy-duty suspension, tinted windows, cruise control, foglamps, tow hooks, and the infinity sound system. To the sahara, it adds the disconnecting front sway bar, rock-trac part-time transfer case with 4:1 low range, dana 44 front and rear axles, tru-lok locking front and rear differential, 4. 10 axle ratio, rock rails, and 32-inch b. The sahara models offer electronic stability and electronic roll mitigation. Seat-mounted front side air bags are optional with some models. walkaroundnaturally, the new wrangler looks just like a jeep; the redesign for 2007 didn't mess with the classic round headlamps, seven-slot grille or upright fold-down windshield, although the windshield is slightly curved, for the first time on a jeep, for better aerodynamics and reduced wind noise. Only a jeep aficionado will be able to tell the all-new '07 wrangler from the '06, but there are ways.  identifying a new wrangler unlimited is easy: just count the doors.  although the wheelbase of the '07 wrangler has been stretched by 2 inches, the vehicle is 2. 6 inches shorter overall, thanks to reduced overhangs and new bumpers. And it's 5. 5 inches wider, with a 3. 4-inch wider track. Jeep says it's 'dramatically brawnier,' but we'd say that's a dramatic statement. The sheetmetal is new, with a slight crown. The halogen headlamps are brighter, and the new front bumper has integrated fog lamps near its center. For the first time, there are step assists under the doors to make climbing up into the jeep easier, and the tail lamps are new. The fender flares are bolted on, so they can be easily taken off and replaced with cooler aftermarket flares. The bumpers, step assists and fender flares are all sturdy, flat-black plastic on the x.  the standard soft top is improved for easier removal and installation. The sunrider soft top slides back half way, like a huge sunroof over the front seats. The new optional three-piece modular hardtop (freedom top) has two front panels that easily pop on and off like a t-top, and are stored behind the rear seat. The third panel over the rear seat can be removed separately and stored in the garage. The freedom top yields a total of six open-air possibilities.  under the body, there's a new boxed frame that's 100 percent stiffer in bending and 50 percent stiffer in twisting, with seven cross members. This helps in crash results, and enabled a new suspension: steering geometry, shock absorbers, springs and control arms are all different. Wide spaced frame rails cradle the fuel tank between the wheels. Three skid plates protect the fuel tank, transfer case and automatic transmission oil pan. interiorthe 2007 jeep wrangler two-door is a lot roomier inside than pre-2007 models, thanks to its increased width. The comfortable new high-back front seats, using a handsome stain-resistant gray or khaki-colored fabric in the sahara and rubicon, offer 5. 1 inches more shoulder room and 4. 6 inches more hip room. The removable rear seat provides 3. 9 inches more shoulder room, 1. 6 inches more hip room and 1 inch more leg room for each of the two passengers. There's also 2 more inches behind the rear seat, which now folds to provide nearly twice the cargo capacity as before.  the cabin is 20 percent quieter, thanks to better isolation from new body mounts, extensive use of something called pcl (polymer constraint layer), and new seals at the doors, along the a-pillar, and at the top of the windshield.  as for the larger unlimited, jeep claims that its 86. 7 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seat folded flat (the headrests flip back, so they don't need to be removed) is more than the toyota fj cruiser, hummer h3 or nissan xterra. That huge difference is because in the regular wrangler, the rear passengers sit directly over the axle and between the wheel wells; in the unlimited, the axle is located behind them. The instruments, including the optional compass and temperature gauges, are easy to read, and the controls are soothingly simple. The solid square buttons look good and are easy to understand and operate. Seven speakers, including subwoofer, is a whole lot of speakers for the cabin of a jeep, and we think this is a good thing. The locking glove box is about one-third larger than before, and there's a convenient grab handle above it. 2008 jeep liberty review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new, smoother and a little larger. introductionthe jeep liberty is all-new for 2008. It's slightly bigger and has a smoother ride, but it maintains the ruggedness of the previous version. The 2008 liberty is quite capable off road, one of the best in its class.  the 2008 jeep liberty is 2. 5 inches longer overall and its wheelbase is two inches longer than that of its predecessor. With heavily revised styling, the 2008 liberty is taller and more angular than the 2001-2007 models, reminiscent of the much-loved, rugged but crude 1990s jeep cherokee. Compared to recent jeep offerings such as the patriot and compass, the all-new 2008 liberty is more of a true jeep, with off-road prowess and bold, upright styling.  the only engine for 2008 is a carryover 3. 7-liter v6 that makes 210 horsepower. When it comes to fuel economy, the liberty's weight and powertrain provide numbers that are on the lower end of the class.  jeep has made an effort to refine the liberty and add premium options. Snow belt drivers will appreciate the new full-time all-wheel drive system available in addition to the carryover part-time system. Within its class, only the nissan xterra can claim as much off-road capability.  when they redesigned it, jeep engineers set out to give the 2008 liberty pleasant road manners and, when it comes to ride quality, they succeeded. The liberty rides firmly, but irons out most bumps quite well and is stable on the highway. The liberty sacrifices handling for off-road prowess, however. The liberty leans in turns and has a floppy feeling in quick changes of direction. It's this aspect that makes the liberty most comparable to the nissan xterra and ford escape. These three are more rugged, more capable off road than the honda cr-v, toyota rav4, and the new nissan rogue, which are lighter, more agile, and more carlike. If we were heading up a rough logging road, we'd be pleased to be in a liberty.  inside, the liberty has plenty of room for five. We view it as a step back in terms of materials quality and fit and finish, however. The previous liberty had more soft touch surfaces and closer panel gaps, while the current model has more hard-plastic surfaces. Still, it's not an unpleasant cockpit.  cargo room is a plus. The liberty's second row seats fold flat, as does the front passenger seat, to provide plenty of room for hauling boxes, bikes and life's other accessories.  with a maximum towing capacity of 5000 pounds, rugged off-road capability and plenty of cargo space, the 2008 jeep liberty is a good choice for small families or couples that tow boats or go camping. The models are sport 20,330), sport 4wd 21,940), limited 24,515), and limited 4wd 26,125). The lone engine is a 210-horsepower 3. 7-liter v6. The limited's premium sound group 395) adds jeep's uconnect wireless cell phone link to the sport's version.  safety features include the mandated dual front airbags, plus head-protecting side-curtain airbags with rollover sensors and front side airbags for torso protection. Active safety features include anti-lock brakes with brake assist, hill start assist, traction control, and electronic stability control with rollover mitigation. The antilock brakes have rough road detection; when rough conditions are detected, the system holds the brake pulses longer to better slow the vehicle. Hill descent control is standard on 4x4 models. Optional safety features include trailer sway control and rear obstacle detection. walkaroundwhen jeep introduced the liberty in 2001, it was the middle child of a three vehicle lineup. Now that it's redesigned for 2008, it's the middle child of a seven-vehicle lineup. Compared to recent jeep offerings such as the patriot and compass, however, it is more of a true jeep, with off-road prowess and bold, upright styling.  the 2008 liberty is unmistakable as a jeep. The 2008 model is 2. 5 inches longer and 0. 8 inch wider than the previous generation (2001-07), with a wheelbase that grows by 1. 8 inches. Its tall, upright, angular styling fits with the current jeep design idiom while also recalling the 1990s cherokee. It is the same platform used for the last model and it is shared with the dodge nitro. The big news here is the new rear suspension. It's an independent five-link unit that allows for greater interior room and better ride characteristics.  the most noticeable aspect of the front end is jeep's characteristic seven-slot grille, which is taller on this model. The grille is body color on sport, chrome on limited. The front fascia is body color on all, and the front air dam is removable to provide more ground clearance for off-roading.  from the side, the liberty looks like a junior commander, with tall windows in a squared off greenhouse. The limited's chrome theme extends to the side with chrome side trim and roof rails. These components are black on sport, and the roof rails are optional. Jeep has moved it under the floor for 2008. The tailgate also changes from a swing gate to a liftgate design, and separate opening rear glass is newly standard.  jeep says its competition is the honda crv, ford escape, toyota rav4 and nissan xterra. The 2008 liberty is approximately the same size as these vehicles, but is considerably heavier than all but the xterra. It is also more capable off-road than all but the xterra. interiorthough not luxurious, the new interior of the 2008 liberty is functional. Most drivers will like the high seating position. Head room in the front seat is plentiful, but the tallest drivers will want more available front leg room. The side mirrors are large and the cabin has a lot of glass, making for fine rear visibility.  the gauges are easy to spot and the controls are simple to use. The climate functions are controlled by three simple knobs and the radio and other vehicle controls are straightforward. There is a useful cubby on the center of the dash top, and sizable grab handle is located just above the smallish glove box. The center console is deep and has a removable tray on top. There is also a small tray next to the shift handle. In 4wd models, a small electronic switch replaces last year's transfer case lever.  we don't think the interior feels like an upgrade from the previous generation, however. The previous liberty had some nice materials and quality finishes that are lacking in this new version. The dash, for instance, is all plastic with no sof.

2008 jeep compass review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Small crossover with big-suv virtues. introductionthe jeep compass is a car-based vehicle that's enjoyable to drive and comes with a choice of front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. First introduced as a 2007 model, the compass is built on a front-wheel-drive, car-based structure, a modified version of the platform that supports the mitsubishi lancer and jeep patriot.  one way to measure the value of the compass might be to compare it to the trusty jeep cherokee that was enormously popular for 18 years and finally ended its run in 2001. It's a solid, sophisticated, 16-valve engine. It features electronic variable valve timing that continually changes the torque curve, bringing more versatility to the 165 peak pound-feet of torque, and more capability to the 172 peak horsepower. The cvt comes with the auto stick manual shiftgate feature for 2008. The auto stick enables the driver to shift up and down over six preset gear ratios, making it feel like a six-speed gearbox without a clutch pedal.  also new for 2008, jeep has recalibrated the engine and transaxle for improved drivability and reduced noise. Chrome interior accents brighten the 2008 models, and air conditioning and a tire-pressure monitor are standard equipment.  the safety, ride and handling of the compass are all excellent, with a strong steel structure and well-planned subframe. Side-curtain airbags and electronic stability control with anti-rollover sensors are standard. Power windows and power door locks are optional, however. Some cannot.  inside, the compass is thoughtfully designed. The instruments and controls are well placed and easy to use, though the materials feel cut rate. There's good interior space all around, with rear seats that fold flat to make about 54 cubic feet of cargo space. Options for added versatility include reclining rear seats and a passenger front seat that also folds flat, creating either a table or eight-foot-long space for storage. lineupthe jeep compass comes as two models, sport and limited, each with front-wheel drive (2wd) or all-wheel drive (awd). It comes standard with a five speed manual transmission or a cvt automatic 1100) with auto stick manual shiftgate. It makes 158 hp and 141 pound-feet of torque and only comes with the cvt.  the 2wd sport 16,475) and awd sport 18,225) come standard cloth upholstery; air conditioning; outside-temperature indicator; am/fm/cd stereo with auxiliary audio jack; vinyl load floor; center console sliding armrest with cell phone or mp3 pocket; 60/40 split rear seat; tilt steering column; fog lamps; roof rails; and p215/60r17 tires on aluminum wheels. The front and rear fascia and side moldings have shiny aluminum accents.  options for the limited include the sport options, plus its own security and cargo convenience group 495) with daytime running lights, alarm, cargo cover, and jeep's uconnect wireless cell phone link; chrome-plated 18-inch aluminum wheels 825); the boston acoustics sound system 495); and a dvd-based navigation system with six-disc cd changer 1,395). A rallye group for sport 1,985) and limited 1,850) includes driving lamps, a rear stabilizer bar, rear spoiler, bright exhaust tip, and mopar body trim; for sport, it also adds p215/55r18 tires on aluminum wheels.  safety features that come standard on all models include dual front air bags; head-protecting curtain side air bags; tire-pressure monitor; antilock brakes with brake assist (which applies more brake force than the driver is applying if sensors determine it's needed in a panic stop); traction control; and electronic stability control with rollover mitigation. Torso-protecting side-impact air bags for front-seat occupants are optional 250) and we recommend them. walkaroundjeep sent its brand in a new direction in 2007, introducing two car-based suvs, the compass and patriot. Of the two, the compass has more of a crossover look, especially from the sculpted side, with smoothly angular flares over the wheels and more laid back lines. The rear door handles are vertical, mounted on the c-pillars to preserve the character line. (the patriot, on the other hand, is more upright, looking like a smaller version of the commander and a throwback to the old cherokee. Jeep's other compact suv, the liberty, is redesigned for 2008. It looks similar to the patriot, but is even more upright and masculine.)  the liftgate on the compass is sloped at nearly a 45-degree angle, while those of the patriot and liberty are vertical; and the third side window, into the cargo area, is a stylized triangle (leaving more sheetmetal and reducing visibility) while the others, again, are square.  that slope at the rear of the compass is matched by the steeply raked windshield, leading up to a roof that's slightly lower than that of the patriot and almost five inches lower than the liberty's. Black plastic roof rails continue from the top corners of the windshield all the way to the spoiler over the liftgate, channeling water over the roof.  the compass limited has aluminum-looking trim on the sides and bumpers. The less-costly sport looks classier in its cleaner monotone. The optional 18-inch chromed aluminum wheels on the limited will appeal to those who want their jeep suv to look more like a cadillac escalade. interiorthe jeep compass cabin is roomy and comfortable. The front bucket seats are very comfortable without being soft. The sport is available with jeep's yes essentials upholstery, a rugged fabric that's stain, odor and static resistant. The front seat jacks upward, which is nice because the long dash makes it hard to see the ground in front of the car, even though the hood is short. The interior isn't very exciting to look at (boring in beige but better in gray) and the feel is far from luxurious. But it is quite functional. The center stack is wide and intelligently designed: rectangular vents on top, a single-disc am/fm/cd stereo below it, and below that a slot that might hold a paperback book. Lower still are three climate control knobs and various buttons for options (including the available heated seats). The shift lever, manual or automatic, sprouts from the dash below these buttons. This practical high forward position was introduced by honda, but actually originated in rally racing cars, where ergonomics really matter.  moving rearward, between the front seats, there are two fixed cupholders, the emergency brake handle, and a flip-up center console containing a slot for a cell phone or mp3 player. The console top is an armrest, and can slide forward three inches to accommodate drivers of different sizes.  legroom is good, both front and rear: 39. 4 inches in the rear. The compass will be a fine vehicle for a family trip, with reclining rear seats, optional on sport and standard on limited. There are cupholders in the rear but no net pockets on th.

2006 jeep liberty review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Day in and day out, liberty works like a car or wagon. Fold the rear seats and it can move two people and some serious cargo.  turn off the pavement, and liberty can negotiate most trails with confidence. True, the liberty gives up some refinement and road agility to do this. It does not ride or handle as well as some of the other small suvs. But the liberty is among the best of the small sport-utilities for drivers who want serious off-road capability on the weekend yet need practicality and affordability during the week.  the mid-range renegade looks the part, with its flatter hood, taller grille, off-road foglamps and taillamp guards. Renegade also features functional rock rails and skid plates. All-terrain tires are optional, as are gps navigation and an overhead light bar.  but the economy-priced sport and luxury-grade limited models are plenty capable as well, and offer something the renegade does not: the only diesel engine available in a compact or mid-size suv. For 2006, all liberty models come with jeep's electronic stability program (esp), anti-lock brakes (abs), electronic roll mitigation, and all-speed traction control. lineupthe 2006 jeep liberty is available in three trim levels: sport 20,970), renegade 22,860), and limited edition 24,410). A six-speed manual transmission is standard in sport and renegade. Full-time selec-trac is optional 395) on all three trim levels, and retains a low range for serious off-roading.  sport 2wd and sport 4wd 22,480) are entry-level models, although they do come with air conditioning, tilt steering, power windows, power mirrors remote keyless entry, engine immobilizer, six-speaker am/fm/cd stereo, gray fender flares, p225/75 tires on 16-inch steel wheels and, as we mentioned earlier, abs, electronic stability control (esp), and traction control.  renegade 2wd and 4wd 24,370) add unique trexx cloth upholstery, speed control, leather-wrapped steering wheel, deep-tinted sunscreen glass, vanity mirrors, and 16-inch aluminum wheels finished in mineral gray metallic. Fender flares are body-color. Limited deletes renegade's rock rails but adds lots of exterior brightwork.  leather for limited is available as part of a big customer preferred option package 1,575) that includes the programmable overhead console, power seat adjusters, deep-tint glass, power heated outside mirrors, a security group, and an am/fm/6cd stereo, steering-wheel-mounted audio controls and infinity speakers.  options for all liberty models include a trailer tow group 365), trac-loc locking rear differential 285), power sunroof 700), sirius satellite radio 195), and a tire-pressure monitor. Gps navigation 1,500) and uconnect with bluetooth 275) are available on renegade and limited 1,500). Standard on all models is an electronic stability program (esp), which enhances driver control and helps maintain directional stability under all conditions. The front airbags, which come standard, are multi-stage and will deploy with less force during low-speed collisions or if t. walkaroundwith its seven-slat grille and round headlights, there's no question the liberty looks like a jeep.  the liberty's body is tall, providing the driver with a commanding view of the terrain ahead. In its exterior dimensions, the liberty fits between the jeep wrangler and grand cherokee. With an overall length of 174. 4 inches, the jeep liberty is slightly longer than the ford escape. It's longer than the wrangler, but significantly shorter and lighter than the grand cherokee.  the renegade model features a flatter hood that complements the traditional round jeep headlimps for a distinctive appearance reminiscent of the hardy old jeep cj3b of 1953-64. Freestanding fog lamps with black bezels, side sills to protect the body from road blast, tow hooks and a bright silver metallic applique across the body-color front fascia add to renegade's rugged appearance. Bolted fender flares, which are gray on sport and body-color on limited, are molded in contrasting accent colors for renegade, and feature chrome-plated attachment details to make sure they are noticed. Tubular roof rails are finished in brushed silver metallic. A black off-road light bar is optional on renegade only.  a neat feature on all models: yanking hard on the outside handle of the rear cargo door causes the glass hatch to swing up as the door itself is swinging out, which saves time and effort. Pulling on the handle with less force opens the glass only. Also, the door is hinged on the left and swings open from the right, better for curbside pickups at the airport. Its roomy interior accommodates five passengers and a generous amount of cargo, with 29 cubic feet of usable space behind the second row of seats. Sitting in the liberty gives the driver a sense of spaciousness with 40. 7 inches of headroom, more than other suvs in this class. Door panels are scalloped out for elbow rests, and a grab handle is provided on the passenger's side of the dash.  the seats were noticeably improved for 2005 through the use of dual-density foam, but the side bolsters are still soft, a signal that the liberty is set up more to absorb vibration than to be slung around corners. The standard cloth upholstery feels like it will hold up well. The renegade front seats are tailored with unique cloth center panels and vinyl bolsters. The front seats in the limited are more comfortable. A grab handle is provided, but it's located on the a-pillar above the steering wheel, not the perfect position to help shorter people swing inside.  the liberty's rear seats are comfortable, capable of holding three people. Two adults should be happy here. Caesar the 160-pound mastiff was happy to ride there. Two full-size garbage cans fit side-by-side back there, too, a feat we haven't seen duplicated in many suvs. Grocery-bag hooks and cargo tie-downs are provided to keep things from rolling around. An optional cargo organizer opens into a shelf with compartment dividers to keep packages in place, and can be folded flat when not in use.  fold. 2005 jeep liberty review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Day in and day out, it takes the place of a car or wagon. Fold the rear seats and it can move two people and some serious cargo. In this respect, it stands apart from the herd of compact sport-utility vehicles, few of which offer true off-road capability. The liberty gives up some refinement and road agility to do this. On the road, it does not ride or handle as well as some of the other small suvs. But the liberty is among the best of the small sport-utilities for drivers who need serious off-road capability on the weekend yet need practicality and affordability during the week.  for 2005, the liberty gets a new engine and two new transmissions. With the addition of an advanced, 2. 7-liter common-rail diesel engine, jeep becomes the first midsize suv available with a diesel engine in the u. The diesel is backed by a five-speed overdrive automatic transmission. A new, six-speed manual transmission replaces the previous five-speed manual.  the liberty renegade has seen the most change for 2005, having been fitted with a flatter hood, taller grille, off-road foglamps and taillamp guards. All receive a new front fascia, grille, foglamps fender flares, and body side-moldings. Interior refinements include relocated power window switches, new instrument panel cluster graphics, and improved seat comfort. lineupthe 2005 jeep liberty is available in three trim levels: sport, limited edition, and renegade. The new diesel engine is available on both sport and limited models. A five-speed automatic is standard on the diesel.  sport 19,190) and sport 4wd 20,700) are entry-level models, but receive visual changes for 2005 that add the look of custom details. Air conditioning 850) is optional, however. Power windows and other features can be added as options. The optional v6 is available with manual transmission 850) or an automatic 1,675). The common rail diesel, or crd, is available for the sport 4x4 24,515).  limited edition models offer upgraded interior amenties and a better grade of cloth upholstery. Limited 23,525) and limited 4wd 25,035) come standard with the v6 engine and automatic transmission. Air conditioning is standard. Other options include the trailer tow group 285), a trac-loc locking rear differential 285), power sunroof 700) and sirius satellite digital radio 195). While the tire pressure monitor and simple warning signal are standard, a roof-mounted tire pressure display, which shows the actual pressure at each wheel, is optional 75).  renegade 2wd 22,910) and 4wd 24,520) models come standard with the 3. 7-liter v6, six-speed manual transmission and command-trac part-time 4wd system. Renegade comes standard with air conditioning; cruise control; tilt steering; 16-inch graphite-painted aluminum wheels; power windows, mirrors, and locks; illuminated keyless entry; side rails; and many other features. Renegade 4wd models include rugged tubular side rails and rock rails. Automatic transmission 825) is optional. A premium package 1,240) adds the automatic, power leather seats, and upgraded door trim panels, along with an overhead vehicle information center that allows the customer to program automatic locking, lighting, and other features.  side-impact airbags 490) are optional on all liberty models, and we highly recommend them. Serious 4wd adventurers may want the optional off-road group 765 for sport, $520 for limited), which includes skid plates for the front suspension, fuel tank and transfer case; a locking rear differential; heavy-duty engine cooling; p235/70r16 all-terrain tires; and tow hooks. walkaroundwith its seven-slat grille and round headlights, there's no question the liberty looks like a jeep.  the liberty's body is tall, providing the driver with a commanding view of the terrain ahead. In terms of exterior dimensions, the liberty fits between the jeep wrangler and grand cherokee. With an overall length of 174. 4 inches, the jeep liberty is slightly longer than the ford escape. It's longer than the wrangler, but significantly shorter and lighter than the grand cherokee.  2005 liberty sport models get a new body-color grille, provisions for optional fog lamps, and higher turn lamp locations for more protection from road debris. A flatter hood complements the traditional round jeep headlimps for a distinctive jeep appearance. A new body-color grille is part of the re-styling for 2005, as are large freestanding fog lamps with black bezels, and a new sill to protect the body sides from road blast. Tow hooks and a bright silver metallic applique across the new molded-in color front fascia are standard features. Bolted flares are also molded-in color for more durability and have chrome-plated attachment details. A new luggage side rack with beefieer molded-in color end pieces, and a brushed silver metallic tubular side rail combine to suggest a rugged appearance. The black off-road light bar, standard in prior years, is now an optional feature. Fender flares, combined with the off-road light bar and taillamp guards give the renegade a look that stands apart from the sport and limited models.  a neat feature on all models: yanking hard on the outside door handle causes the glass hatch to swing up as the door itself is swinging out, which saves time and effort. Pulling on the handle with less force causes just the glass hatch to swing up. Also, the door swings open from the right, better for curbside pickups at the airport.  the jeep liberty debuted as a 2002 model. 2003 brought enhancements aimed at improving on-road stability. 2004 brought upgrades in safety equipment, and in comfort and convenience options. Among them: chrysler's enhanced accident response system, which unlocks doors and turns on interior lights five seconds after an airbag deploys. interiorthe jeep liberty comes with a roomy interior that can accommodate five passengers and a generous amount of cargo, with 29 cubic feet of usable space behind the second row of seats. Sitting in the liberty gives the driver a sense of spaciousness with 40. 7 inches of headroom, best in class, according to jeep. Door panels are scalloped out for elbow rests, and a grab handle is provided on the passenger's side of the dash. Sport seats we tried in '04 felt firm in the middle, but the side bolsters were too mushy to provide much side support. For '05, they have been noticeably improved through the use of dual-density foam. Also, there's no seat-height adjustment. The side bolsters are still soft, a signal that the liberty is set up more to absorb vibration than sling around corners. The cloth upholstery, with a diamond-plate inspired fabric, feels like it'll hold up well. The renegade front seats are tailored with unique cloth center panels and vinyl bolsters. The front seats in the limited are more comfortable. The grab handle, located on the a-pillar above the steering wheel, is not in the perfect position to help shorter people swing inside.  the liberty's rear seats are comfortable, capable of holding three people. Two adults should be happy here. Cloth Interior✔ AM/FM✔ Power Windows✔ Anti-lock Brakes✔ Cruise Control✔ CD Player✔ Leather Seats✔ Sunroof/Moonroof✔ Air Conditioning✔ Aluminum Wheels
