2005 nissan xterra review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new xterra is a catalyst for adventure. introductionit looks almost the same, but the 2005 nissan xterra is all new. And it's better, on paved roads and off. It's safer, more powerful, more sophisticated, and more capable.  first introduced in 2001, the xterra was simple, functional and largely unrefined. The original xterra was really just a pickup truck chassis with a utility body, accessorized with racks, bins and cargo hold-fast items. It was truly useful, but it rode and handled like a pickup truck, and it was flawed by conflicts between the base platform and the accessories that were tacked on. Still, it was unique. It was a great adventure vehicle. And it was cool.  taking full advantage of the opportunity to re-design the xterra for 2005, nissan has made the new xterra more modern, but still rugged and functional. Features and options are better integrated into the package. Conceived as a multi-function suv, xterra eschews luxury do-dads, but can be configured for varying combinations of utility and convenience. With the 2005 xterra, nissan has resolved the equipment conflicts, and properly integrated the features packages.  they did all that, and somehow kept the cool. lineupthe 2005 nissan xterra is available in 2wd or 4x4 configurations, in s, se or off-road trim levels. Each comes standard with the 4. 0-liter v6 and a choice of manual or automatic transmissions.  safety equipment includes an advanced air bag system, which consists of dual-stage front supplemental air bags with seat belt sensors and a front occupant classification sensor. Also standard are three-point seat belts for all rear seat occupants (including the center rear position) and a child seat anchor system. The side/curtain air bag package includes side-impact air bags, with rollover sensor, and side curtain air bags.  options include the power package (standard on se and off-road grades), which includes power door locks, mirrors and windows, remote keyless entry, cruise control and a vehicle security system with an immobilizer.  the utility package (standard on se and off-road) includes sturdy step rails, electronic vehicle dynamic control (vdc) (automatic transmission only), a cargo net, flat-folding passenger seat for carrying long cargo, and the signature first-aid kit.  the rockford fosgate audio (standard on se) package has a six-disc in-dash changer, eight speakers with subwoofer, steering wheel controls and mp3 cd capability. The system is satellite-ready, and has speed-sensitive volume.  the off-road grade (standard on off-road) combines an electronic locking rear differential with bilstein shocks, skid plates, fog lamps, 16-inch alloy off-road wheels and larger 265/75r16 bfg rugged trail all terrain tires. The package comes with distinctive black body side molding, unique blue seat fabric, cargo net, and everything in the power package. The off-road grade also includes electronic handling systems such as nissan's vdc, hill descent control (hdc) and hill start assist systems that avoid skidding and wheel spin through computerized application of the anti-lock braking system. walkaroundthe new xterra looks a lot like the old xterra, but tougher and more powerful, ready for outdoor activity. Wheel wells have been accentuated with squared-off lines, adding muscular shoulders to the xterra's stance.  the effect is especially pronounced from the front, where the massive front bumper and heavy grille combine with a conspicuous front skid plate, adding bulk and mass to the approaching xterra. The roofline kicks upward to increase second-row headroom. Side mirrors are large and rectangular. The bodywork is intended to suggest an aggressive posture, and performance in the off-road sense.  the xterra also projects a high-utility image. A roof rack made with wide beams adds size and a sense of utility. Side steps create easy access to the roof rack, a functional addition underscoring the utility of the roof rack and its cargo box. It has about an inch more front legroom, and over an inch more front headroom. Second-row legroom, headroom and shoulder room have all increased.  cargo capability has remained a priority. The rear seat folds down when needed, and the front passenger seat also folds down, meaning that lengthy recreational gear or lumber can be more easily accommodated.  second-row seating is stadium-style, meaning that the rear passengers can see over the front-seat occupants.  storage compartments have been enlarged (both center console and glove compartment), and there is also additional instrument panel storage. The cargo area has easily cleaned flooring and a total of 10 cargo utility hooks. The rear is set up to handle anything the roof rack can't, such as a dirty dog or muddy soccer cleats. There is an adjustable channel system on the cargo floor making it easier to secure bike racks. Rising to the occasion, we ended up on a weekend adventure trip, driving to the grand canyon for a little river rafting, stopping in sedona and williams, arizona, along the way.  much of the route took us across lonely interstate highways, where we noticed the new xterra cruises far more easily, and more quietly, than the previous generation. The automatic transmission, a five-speed overdrive, wins points around town. For commuting or driving in traffic, we would prefer it.  but on the open road, the six-speed manual is a sweet gearbox, with an overdrive gear so tall the engine barely murmurs at cruising speeds on the sweeping, largely unpatrolled highways leading to williams, the gateway to the grand canyon. High-speed passing with the automatic transmission does create some noise and vibration as the engine revs toward redline, but only at speeds well above the normal cruising levels. No such issues with the manual, which is strikingly refined, yet sporty. We're told the six-speed is a version of the same transmission used on the nissan 350 z, and we would recommend it for those who like to drive.  regardless of the power train, the xterra is easy to keep in lane on the highway, probably due to the combination of rack-and-pinion steering and a speed-sensitive steering ratio. We can testify that the 300-watt system is quite a bit bigger, cleaner, and more accurate than what we normally listen to. Getting good sound in an suv interior can be difficult, since there are many hard surfaces combined with soft shapes to reflect and muffle sound. In this case, 8 speakers with subwoofer carry the day.  even though the xterra's utility quotient is the main design priority, effort has been made to reduce wind noise, and the results are tangible. Large mirrors, angled grilles, big roof racks, open side steps-these are features that invariably create wind noise, and at speeds over 75 mph, noise does begin to become a factor. Yet below those speeds, the xterra remains nicely calm and quiet. Engine noise, likewise, is kept to a minimum through techniques such as a silent timing chain, microfinished surfaces and teflon-coated pistons.  on smaller roads, the xterra retains a handy feeling, driving with the ease of a large family sedan. Leaving the highway for a graded dirt road, we continued downward for miles. It had rained in the desert the night before, and as we approached the river, water trickled across the road, accumulating in the middle and flowing down the path. The crunch of gravel gave way to the sound of water and rock in the wheelwells. We were forced to move carefully from sid. summarythere is nothing exactly like the xterra on the market. True to the theme of the original nissan xterra, the all-new 2005 nissan xterra is considerably improved, and there is a lot to like. There is more power, more room, plus more carefully thought-out utility features. It is more refined in every way, making it a much more practical everyday vehicle. And when used as a truck, a dirt road prowler, or an adventure vehicle, the xterra can offer authentic 4x4 capabilities, handle wet or dirty cargo, and clean up like a champ.  new car test drive correspondent john stewart is based in southern california. model l. 2011 nissan altima review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Sporty and stylish midsize sedans and coupes. introductionthe nissan altima is more than a midsize transportation appliance. The altima is a driver's car. For drivers who appreciate sharp handling, the altima excels. It connects with its driver and inspires confidence. It's steady and predictable in extreme handling situations. As a tradeoff, its suspension is firm compared to other midsize cars, so it isn't as smooth over bumps.  the nissan altima is best known as a midsize sedan but it's also available in a coupe version. Each version of the altima has sharper handling than is expected in a mainstream midsize car. It is rated at 175 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque (170 and 175, respectively, in california). The available v6, closely related to the engine in nissan's 370z sports car, delivers exciting performance, with 270 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.  the gas-electric altima hybrid sedan boasts an epa-rated 35 miles per gallon in the city, extending its range past 600 miles between fill-ups. Its electrically powered air conditioning works even when the engine is stopped.  altima sedan models are equipped with a continuously variable transmission, or cvt, which works like an automatic but varies gearing and doesn't shift. Nissan has excelled at cvt technology. The coupe is also available with a six-speed manual transmission.  the altima sedan is comfortable, practical and well suited to growing families. It gives up little rear-seat room to the larger nissan maxima, with plenty of room in the trunk for luggage and cargo. In both the sedan and coupe, the altima's cargo space can be expanded into the cabin, thanks to a standard fold-down, locking rear seatback.  the altima coupe two-door looks sportier than the sedan. It sacrifices a substantial amount of rear seat room and we'd say it's a car for two people.  the altima model line fits a wide range of tastes and budgets. The base sedan begins with the essentials, while the generous list of options, most grouped into packages, allows equipping the altima at luxury-class levels.  nissan altima models get high marks for safety; standard equipment includes a full complement of airbags, anti-lock brakes, nissan's vehicle dynamic control (vdc) and traction control. A rearview camera is optional.  after receiving a midcycle update for 2010, the altima gets only minor equipment shuffling in the various packages for 2011.  drivers who put an emphasis on value for the money with a sportier feel than the average midsize car will find the nissan altima worth a look. lineupthe 2011 nissan altima comes in sedan and coupe body styles. Three trim levels are available, base, s, and sr.  the nissan altima 2. 5 sedan 20,270) comes with cloth upholstery, air conditioning with cabin air filter, cruise control, power mirrors, power door locks, power windows, tilt/telescoping steering wheel, split folding rear seat, trip computer, and p215/60r16 tires on steel wheels with wheel covers. It comes standard with the cvt. It is equipped like the s sedan, but substitutes p215/55r17 tires on alloy wheels.  the altima coupe 3. 5 sr features the v6 and a choice of manual 30,540) or cvt 28,210). The cvt version is equipped like the sr sedan but also gets driver-seat lumbar adjustment, sunroof, fog lights, and p235/45r18 tires. The manual version is better equipped, adding leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, bose stereo, usb port, xm satellite radio, bluetooth wireless cell phone link, rearview camera, auto-dimming rearview mirror, compass, universal garage door opener, and xenon headlights.  the altima hybrid 26,800) is available only as a sedan and only with the cvt. It is equipped like an s model, but adds brake assist, dual-zone automatic climate control, and alloy wheels, while deleting the split-folding rear seat.  options start with a special edition package 750) for the 2. 5 s sedan with a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, automatic headlights and alloy wheels. A convenience package for the 2. 5 s sedan 1,150), 2. 5 s coupe 1,070) and hybrid 1,300) comes with eight-way power driver's seat with lumbar adjustment, automatic headlights, leather-wrapped steering wheel, dual illuminated visor vanity mirrors, auto up/down front windows, and key fob auto windows down. The hybrid version also gets a rear spoiler and the sedan version adds alloy wheels. The 2. 5 s coupe version 2,070) gets dual-zone automatic climate control, sunroof, mirror-mounted turn signals, bose audio system, xm satellite radio, usb port, bluetooth wireless cell-phone link, and a rearview camera. The 3. 5 sr coupe version 1,420) has dual-zone automatic climate control, rearview camera, bose audio, satellite radio, usb port, and bluetooth. The 3. 5 sr sedan version 2,380) gets leather upholstery, heated front seats, driver-seat lumbar adjustment, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear vents, bose audio, satellite radio, usb port, bluetooth, rearview camera, universal garage door opener, auto-dimming rearview mirror, compass, and additional interior lights. And the hybrid version 4,230) comes with all of the equipment listed above.  a leather package 2,060) for the coupe gets leather upholstery, heated front seats, auto-dimming rearview mirror, compass, universal garage door opener, and xenon headlights an audio package for the 2. 5 s sedan 1,240) adds a bose audio system with nine speakers, a 4. 3-inch color display, rearview camera, bluetooth, satellite radio, and a usb port. The sport package 2,370) for the 3. 5 sr sedan includes the dual-zone automatic climate control, sunroof, xenon headlights, rear spoiler, and fog lamps. The technology package 1,780) includes the nissan hard drive navigation system with a 6. 5-inch color monitor, 9. 3-gigabyte music box hard drive for digital music storage and playback, xm navtraffic and navweather, dvd player, bluetooth streaming audio, steering-wheel system controls, and vtr jack. Stand-alone options include fog lights 310), bluetooth 280), interior floor and trunk mats 185), rear spoiler 370 sedan, $460 coupe), and alloy wheels 570).  safety features on all models include dual-stage front-impact airbags, front seat-mounted side-impact airbags, front and rear curtain-style airbags, vdc electronic stability control system with traction control, and abs with electronic brake-force distribution, for optimum braking under a range of conditions. walkaroundthe altima sedan and coupe share a similar front end, but there are big differences in the roofline, wheelbase, and at the rear. The sedan's roofline extends far back to create a large passenger space. As a result the rear deck is distinctively short. The sedan's fender flares are pronounced, allowing the rest of the body to be narrower and slip through the wind with less frontal area. The gap between the tires and flares looks tight, just as we like it.  the headlight and taillight clusters are elaborate, almost exotic. Nissan calls the headlamp arrangement a multi-parabola, which means its coverage is all over the place. As for the taillights, nissan says they cost nearly as much as the headlamps, so don't back into anything. They're covered with clear plastic like the headlamps, and contain a silver ray-gun looking cylinder with the red lamp, plus a round white beam for the backup light, and a big orange piece for the parking lamp and turn signal.  the altima coupe has the look of a pure sport two-door. There's good balance between the longish hood, greenhouse and short trunk lid, with just the right amount of sheet metal between the cleanly outlined wheel arches. This design probably increases stability at socially irresponsible speeds, but at rest it can look almost plump. The coupe is just as roomy up front, but the rear seat is best left to kids or packages.

2007 nissan altima review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The nissan altima has been totally redesigned for 2007. It looks more like the maxima now. It's a couple of inches shorter on the outside, but has more room on the inside, including a spacious trunk. Fold-down rear seats allow the trunk to expand into the cabin for carrying big long things.  the object of the redesign was to bring the feel and power of a luxury car to this everyman's midsize sedan, and nissan has succeeded, at least with the altima model that has the v6 engine and all the options, including plush leather. It makes 270 horsepower, more than what's available in other midsize cars (excluding turbocharged or expensive sports sedans), along with 258 pound-feet of torque. The price for that power: the v6 requires premium fuel and gets 22/28 mpg.  another thing that makes the altima stand out is its new optional cvt, or continuously variable transmission. It's the only automatic transmission available in this car, and it's a winner with its manual mode, which allows six speeds or ranges. A cvt improves gas mileage because there's less internal friction.  the handling is true, and the suspension is quite firm without ever being harsh. It inspires confidence. It's a match for rough pavement and is steady and predictable in extreme situations. The altima also comes loaded with safety features.  an intelligent key comes standard in the altima. This might be convenient for some, but it leads to new problems, having to do with the memory of the human brain and confusion of the car's electronic brain. lineupthe 2007 nissan altima is initially available as five models: the 2. 5, 2. 5s, 2. 5sl, 3. 5se and 3. 5sl. Air conditioning does not come standard.  the 2. 5s adds air conditioning, a six-speaker sound system, remote keyless entry, power sideview mirrors, and speed-sensitive intermittent wipers, among other smaller things.  the 2. 5sl uses the continuously variable transmission, and adds leather interior with heated front seats and power driver's seat, moonroof, alloy wheels, dual-zone temp controls and rear air conditioning vents, among other smaller things.  the 3. 5 se uses the powerful v6 engine with the six-speed manual gearbox and cloth interior. It adds abs, traction control, and 17-inch alloy wheels, plus heated sideview mirrors and other features.  the 3. 5sl has most of the things listed above, but goes back down to 16-inch alloy wheels. It adds high-intensity xenon headlights, foglamps, bluetooth hands-free phone system, and nine-speaker bose cd/mp3 sound system.  a technology package includes the navigation system, a rearview monitor and satellite radio. On the higher priced models, anti-lock brakes are standard and electronic stability control is optional. Abs includes electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist. Electronic stability control, which nissan calls vdc (vehicle dynamic control) is optional on 3. 5 models. walkaroundthe new 2007 nissan altima looks quite stylish, especially for a mid-size car. The body has gotten a makeover, and features a number of pleasing changes. Like some other new cars, in particular lexus, the fender flares are edgy and extend farther than before, allowing the body itself to be narrower and offer less frontal area. The gap between the tires and flares has been tightened. Overall aerodynamics are improved from 0. 33 to 0. 31, thanks to many things as always, not least the more steeply sloped windshield.  the wheelbase has been shortened by nearly an inch, and the overall length cut by 2. 5 inches, with shorter overhangs. The cowl was moved forward and rear glass rearward, which allowed for no overall decrease in cabin space. The beltline is low so there's more side glass, which adds to the roomy feeling.  the headlamps and taillamps appear almost exotic, certainly elaborate. As for the taillamps, nissan says they cost nearly as much as the headlamps (so don't back into anything!), and they definitely do look expensive. They're covered with clear plastic like the headlamps, and contain a silver ray-gun looking cylinder with the red lamp, plus a round white beam for the backup light and a big orange piece for the parking lamp and turn signal. interiorin redesigning the altima, nissan engineers were assigned to create more cabin space, and given one inch less to work with, on account of the reduction in wheelbase. They met their goal by stretching the distance between a-pillar and c-pillar, thus shortening the cowl and deck. There are 1. 7 inches less legroom in front, but 3. 1 inches more in the rear, and that's a lot; however, 0. 8 inches of rear headroom has been lost. Trunk space has grown from 15. 6 cubic feet to 17. 9.  the seats are relatively large. They feel firm and longer and higher than in last year's models. We've been in many luxury cars that didn't feel this classy inside. More soft materials are used, for touches like padded armrests, and the overall level of refinement is higher than with the former altima. It's the common and practical tripod design, with speedo in center, tachometer on left and gas and temp on right. The lettering is sharp, white on black, with red needles.  the center stack is neatly designed, with three dual-zone hvac vents at top over the sound system and good knobs, leading down to usable storage slots and the transmission lever, in this case for the cvt. The space for the big glovebox was created by downsizing the air conditioning unit, but nissan says there's no compromise in ac effectiveness; in fact, nissan says the ac is best in class, thanks to improved airflow and a quieter fan.  the intelligent key is standard on all altima models, but we don't think it's so smart. It may be true that women don't like to bother with putting a key in an ignition, as the manufacturers say, and like to keep their keys in their purse at all times; but it's also true that since intelligent keys have been invented, there has been a rash of dead batteries. It's left on the accessories mode, and drains the juice. Not even with a passenger totally devoted to the challenge, while we were stuck in traffic.

2011 nissan rogue review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Fresh styling for agile suv. introductionthe nissan rogue was restyled for 2011, with an upgraded look inside and out. Some of the model names have changed, and new features are available that were not before, including a navigation system, rearview monitor, a usb port, and 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels.  the 2011 rogue gets fresh styling with a new front fascia and grille, new front and rear spoilers, new trim accents. Rogue's exterior is designed to present an image of modern sophistication. Its dramatic styling includes dynamically arched forms and powerful rear shoulder lines. The extensive redesign for 2011 adds to its sporty feel, while enhancing its upscale appearance.  interior changes for 2011 include a new instrument panel design and a new center cluster. Leather-appointed seating surfaces are available along with a six-way power driver's seat and a 60/40 split folding rear bench seat. We found the cabin pleasant, with materials that would look good in higher-priced vehicles. In addition to the navigation system and rearview monitor, the rogue is available with nissan intelligent key, bluetooth, xm satellite radio and a powerful bose-developed audio system with seven speakers with woofer, aux input and mp3 playback. The controls are easy to use and understand.  the rogue seats five. There is no third row available for seven-passenger seating. The nissan rogue is a compact suv. Based on a car platform, it's considered a crossover vehicle, like the honda cr-v, hyundai tucson, and chevy equinox. Utility is enhanced by numerous convenient storage and ultra-functionality features, including an oversized glove compartment, a large center console and a washable, removable tray that fits below the cargo area floor to hold wet or dirty gear and tools. The rogue is meant as a daily commuter and weekend runabout, not an off-road adventure vehicle. We think it's one of the better handling small suvs, though we would not call it sporty. The ride allows for a lot of road feel and can become harsh on rough and irregular surfaces. Road imperfections and engine sounds intrude into the cabin.  the rogue was introduced as a 2008 model, and changes since then have been minimal. For 2011, the styling has been updated inside and out, electronics have been advanced, and the packaging of the models has changed. lineupthe 2011 nissan rogue comes in rogue s and rogue sv models, a krom edition and an sl trim level. Rogue s awd 22,080) adds all-wheel drive.  rogue sv 23,240) and rogue sv awd 24,490) feature automatic air conditioning, upgraded cloth upholstery, power driver seat, fold-flat front passenger seat, premium audio with six speakers, ipod/usb input, xm radio, bluetooth, steering wheel audio controls, 4. 3-inch color display, rearview monitor, intelligent key, painted mirrors, yakima-compatible roof rails. It's available with all-wheel drive 25,680).  safety features include dual front airbags, torso-protecting front side airbags, head-protecting side-curtain airbags with rollover sensors, front seat active head restraints, latch-style child seat anchors, tire-pressure monitor, abs with brake assist and electronic brake-force distribution (ebd), and electronic stability control with traction control. walkaroundfor 2011, the appearance of the nissan rogue has been freshened with a new front fascia and grille, new front and rear spoilers, new trim accents.  the styling is swoopy, with rounded lines and a wedge shape from front to rear. A black and chrome nissan badge up front is flanked by a body-color or chrome grille. The sides, even those with chrome door handles and rub strips, are clean and smooth, with nothing to hide the clean lines.  side mirrors are black on the rogue s and body color on the rogue sv. The standard wheels on the rogue s are stamped steel with plastic covers that look like five-spoke alloys from a distance. The 17-inch aluminum wheels that come with the rogue sv add a touch of drama, with five y spokes that seem to actively cling to the rim; 18-inch wheels are also available. The krom has a look all its own, still a rogue but more entertaining.  we think the rogue looks best from the rear, where the dark rear glass, tapering taillights, rounded panels and license plate recess give it some definition. The rear liftgate lacks a separate opening glass but the hatch is not heavy and liftover not too high.  among compact suvs, the rogue has a sleeker, car-based crossover look, like the cr-v, as opposed to the more-upright box-on-box look ford escape or jeep liberty.  the rogue is among the longest vehicles in the class, though it doesn't look it. At 183 inches overall, it is even longer than the seven-passenger toyota rav4 and the bulkier-looking jeep liberty. interiorfor 2011, nissan rogue gets a new instrument panel and center stack and updated technology. The interior uses a simple, rounded design trimmed with quality materials. The dash, for instance, is molded in a soft-touch material that seems as if it might be right at home in an infiniti. The door tops also have a nice soft-touch material. The remainder of the materials is price-appropriate plastic that fits together well.  the instrument panel features large, white-on-black tachometer and speedometer, with analog temperature and fuel conditions inset. Between the gauges is a digital display for trip computer data, outside temperature, gear selected, door-open warnings and so on. It has substantially sized buttons, and the presets are grouped in a, b, and c folders, each of which can mix radio bands; use the 18 presets as a group of six for three different drivers, locales, or attitudes. The center console has two integral cupholders and a small tray that will work for holding little odds and ends. If that's not enough, the console bin is very deep and is available with a removable tray to give it two levels of storage. The tilt steering wheel helps, and there is enough head for most adults and class-leading legroom. There is good visibility to the front and the side mirrors are large, but over-the shoulder visibility is compromised by a smallish rear window and rear side windows that are pinched at the rear. The ride height makes getting into and out of the rogue very easy.  the second row is usefully roomy, with head and leg room that can accommodate adults, even with the front seats moved far back. Three adults in the rear will be cramped, but they should be able to deal with short trips. Toe space under the front seats is plentiful.

2005 nissan murano review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Smooth and comfortable, the urban suv. introductionthe nissan murano is an excellent choice for someone who wants the smooth ride and responsive handling of a car, the cargo space of a wagon, and the high driving position of an suv.  the murano is a good example of a crossover vehicle: it's designed to haul cargo like a sport-utility, but ride and drive like a car. However, this crossover handles better than the honda pilot and toyota highlander, and it drives more like a sports sedan.  murano integrates aerodynamics and high fashion, with a sleek front end, smooth lines from front to back, and a greenhouse that slopes rearward, ending in a large but graceful c-pillar. Inside, nissan resisted the temptation to cram in three rows of seats like the highlander and pilot do. It's not a substitute for a minivan, nor does it look like one.  the futuristic look is backed by sporty performance. The murano is powered by nissan's beefy 3. 5-liter v6, the same engine found in the 350z sports car, putting out 245 horsepower. It comes with a continuously variable transmission, a high-tech automatic that's smooth and responsive while offering superior gas mileage within its class. The murano shares much of its underpinnings with the nissan altima and maxima sedans (but is not related to the infiniti fx).  all-wheel drive is available for better grip and stability in foul weather. A new entry-level murano s lowers the base price. lineupthe 2005 nissan murano is available in three models: s 26,850), sl 28,350) and se 29,300) models. All three are offered in either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive 1,600). All models are powered by the 3. 5-liter v6 mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission that nissan calls the xtronic.  all murano models come with features above the class standard. Standard equipment on all three versions includes dual-zone automatic temperature control, a high-power am/fm/cd audio system, power windows with auto up/down feature in front, keyless remote entry, reclining rear seats, and 18-inch alloy wheels.  the murano se comes with a firmer sport-tuned suspension, a manual shift mode, styled alloy wheels and dark-silver lower bumpers. High-intensity xenon headlights, which have a manual leveling feature, are standard on the se and optional on the sl.  safety features surpass the class standard. Among them: dual-stage frontal air bags with seat belt sensors, front-seat side-impact airbags, full-cabin curtain style head-protection airbags, and active front head restraints. Rollover sensors for the airbag system have been added for 2005. The s can be purchased with a convenience package 800) including a 10-way adjustable driver's seat (standard on the sl and se models), roof rails, adjustable pedals, and a cargo cover and net. The sl and se models can be further upgraded with a premium package 1,500), which adds a more powerful stereo with subwoofer and auto volume control to the contents of the convenience package. The sunroof package 2,500) adds an electric sunroof to the premium equipment. The rear-seat dvd entertainment package 1,720) comes with a 6. 4-inch drop-down screen, remote control and two wireless headsets. Satellite radio, sirius or xm, is a dealer installed option 400). A chrome wheel package is available for sl models 1,200). walkaroundthe murano is named after the glass sculpted in the islands near venice, known for its beauty as well as for the high-tech methods used in its production. In the nissan murano, this duality is most obvious in the styling.    the murano is designed to blend the look of a car and a truck. The top half of the body is sleek like a car, while the bottom half is bulky like a truck. Overall, the look is much sleeker than tall box-shaped suvs. At first it looks a bit over the top. Get used to it, though, and traditional suvs start looking boxy and dated.  the murano's huge 18-inch wheels contribute to its muscular styling. Sculpted, vertical-stack headlights define the front corners. The highly styled rear hatchback is made of reinforced plastic because steel won't bend easily in such a complex shape. The windshield and front side windows are tinted green to deflect uv radiation; the rear side and rear windows are near black for privacy.  as its looks suggest, the murano is an aerodynamic machine. Details in the design help it slip quietly through the air. The colors were chosen carefully to promote a luxury look. interiorclimbing into the nissan murano is easy, easier than other suvs. The seating position and steering wheel orientation make it feel more like a car than an suv. It's a mild surprise that the view rearward isn't compromised by the stylishly thick d-pillars.  the front seats are comfortable and supportive, even for people well over six feet tall. Petite drivers are also able to get comfortable, with the power-adjustable pedals that help ensure a good driving position without getting too close to the steering wheel where the air bag is housed. The overall interior fit and finish are good. The preset buttons, for example, can be programmed to select either am or fm stations without having to press the separate mode button first. Controls on the steering wheel allow easy volume adjustments.  the navigation system works well and includes a three-dimensional birds-eye view that's sometimes more fun to follow than the flat map.  useful features make the murano a satisfying car for day-to-day use. A large center console separates the front seats, enhancing the sports sedan feel of the interior. The center console features a two-tiered lockable storage box with enough room for a laptop computer or a purse, cell phone, sunglasses, coins, cups and bottles. The door pockets flip out for easy access, and there's a hidden storage tray and two bins under the cargo floor. There are also three power outlets: front-passenger footwell, center console and rear.  murano's cabin feels airy. The murano is a five-seat vehicle with similar interior space as the seven-seat toyota highlander and honda pilot. The rear seats take advantage of the additional space. As a result, the murano's back seat is limousine-like. The seats are split 60/40 and are flipped down individually. Flopping both seatbacks down presents a big cargo area with a nice flat floor. The load floor measures about the same length as the seven-seat honda pilot's. Indeed, with maximum cargo capacity of 81. 6 cubic feat, murano dwarfs nearly all of its five-seat competitors and some of the seven-seaters as well. Even with the back seats in place and five passengers aboard, there's still a substantial 32. 6 cubic feet of storage space. Moreover, the rear seats split 70/30 when they fold, so the murano can carry one or two passengers in back with long items like skis laid flat along the other side.  on the downside, at 30. 4 inches, the rear load height is a bit higher than the class average. And the murano's bulky cargo cover seems to flap around and take up room. We'd be inclined to store it in the garage. driving impressionwe liked the nissan murano the first time we drove one. 2007 nissan versa review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new, larger and more sophisticated. introductionthe all-new 2007 nissan sentra is the sixth generation of a car that has been a best-seller around the world. That's quite a commitment to the belief that the u. So if the sentra is the second car they've owned in their lifetime, it might be a step up in size. Nissan believes that these folks virtually live in their cars, so in designing the new sentra, they've tried to create a 'mobile backpack.'  the cabin is more spacious, and is finished like a more expensive car, with wonderfully supportive seats in either cloth or rich leather. One thing the sentra doesn't have, surprisingly, is a fifth door: no hatchback model, only the sedan. But at least the 60/40 rear seats fold flat, opening up the trunk space, creating a large flat cargo area, or a cozy space for two echo boomers to sleep.    there's an all-new aluminum 2. 0-liter engine, more powerful and fuel efficient than before, to go with the new chassis and body. It's mated to either a wonderful six-speed gearbox, or an optional new cvt, continuously variable transmission. Cruise control is unavailable. Anti-lock brakes are optional 250).  the 2. 0s adds 16-inch steel wheels, six-way manual driver's seat, power mirrors, remote entry, a six-speaker sound system, illuminated steering wheel audio controls, and vehicle information display. Abs is still optional, and at least cruise control is available.  the 2. 0sl adds leather interior, 16-inch alloy wheels, abs with brake force distribution, keyless ignition, cruise control, and bluetooth hands-free phone technology.  for all models, foglamps 270) and rear deck lid 210) are optional. A clever original feature called the divide-n-hide trunk (a secret space behind the rear seats) is optional with the 2. 0s and 2. 0sl, as is satellite radio wiring.  safety equipment is extensive on all models, including dual-stage front airbags, front side airbags, full length curtain airbags, active front seat headrests, and a tire pressure monitoring system. It seems odd that anti-lock brakes aren't standard, and electronic stability control isn't available. walkaroundnissan has brought the sentra more into the family, with styling from a clean sheet of paper. It looks like a scaled-down maxima now, with all the right curves, lines, and sculpted shapes. From every angle, it looks like a new nissan, with its crisp character lines. This means better balance on the road. And the latest chassis are safer, with crush zones built into less space. There's an upcoming funny commercial featuring a rumpled echo boomer who makes a documentary of himself living 24/7 in his sentra. One thing, for example, is a locking glovebox deep enough to hold a laptop computer. There's also an integrated removable cd holder on the headliner above the driver's sun visor; cupholders that are adjustable for 20-ounce bottles, 32-ounce mega cups, or cellphones and dvds; and pockets with see-through netting on the backs of the front seats for passengers' cellphones and ipods.  with 97. 4 cubic feet of cabin space, the '07 sentra has more room than the mazda3, honda civic, toyota corolla, and chevy cobalt, in that order. In trunk volume, the cobalt makes up for it, with 13. 9 cubic feet, compared to the sentra's 13. 1; but the sentra has something simple but clever, in its optional (2. 0s and 2. 0sl) 'divide-n-hide' trunk. The trunk is so deep that it can accept a false folding back, creating a secret space about 20 inches wide, just behind the rear seat.  we spent time in both a bare-bones sentra 2. 0 with cloth seats, and the fully equipped 2. 0sl with leather. When there's no one back there, the 60/40 split rear seat drops flat, to open up the space into the trunk. There's no problem fitting a bicycle (or maybe two) back there, through the trunk; two friendly echo boomers could even sleep back there.  but the new instrument panel might be the nicest aspect of the interior. Again, very stylish, and functional too. The instruments are sharp, the controls easy to operate, and the center stack features a strong-looking shift lever rising out at a 45-degree angle. It makes 140 horsepower (same as the '06 honda civic, 14 hp more than the toyota corolla and 10 hp less than the mazda3), but it's been designed to produce strong torque; with 147 pound-feet, it beats those others. The flow of traffic in northern california was more than 80 mph, and the sentra ran 90 with ease. This is the third generation of that transmission, and the technology improves in leaps. The main benefit with a cvt is less internal friction, for better gas mileage. With only two ranges, high and low, it's smoother because there's less shifting, although the sound is odd, like the car is winding up. The 2007 nissan altima has a manual mode for the cvt transmission, turning it into a six-speed; but the sentra, alas, does not.  the suspension is a new independent configuration in front, with a torsion beam in the rear, a compact design with separate shocks and coil springs that allows more room for the trunk that's above it. It's firm in a quality kind of way, yet never harsh or uncomfortable. It feels rugged and inspires confidence, out there in the cruel world of potholes.  the brakes feel even better. Vented 11-inch discs in front and drums in rear. It's unfortunate that abs isn't standard except in the 2. 0 sl, especially considering all the other standard safety equipment; but at least the option is only $250. It's speed-sensitive, which means the feel is lighter when parking and heavier out on the freeway, as it should be. summarythe word that applies to every aspect of the all-new 2007 sentra is solid. Nissan has nailed this one, from a design standpoint. It's got a new engine, chassis, styling and interior, all of which are excellent and will keep the sentra near the top of its competitive class of well-built cars. For the price, the sentra is a great value.  newcartestdrive.
