2001 chevrolet tahoe review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Best in class and an ideal size. introductionchevrolet's tahoe seems at times the perfect size. And it more easily handles a trailer. Yet it's far more maneuverable than a suburban, important in crowded parking lots, underground garages, or when parallel parking.  on the road, it's smooth and stable, a rock. There's plenty of power and the brakes work well. Its cabin is comfortable and familiar, friendly and functional. Turn off the highway and the tahoe handles gravel, rugged two-tracks, mud, and snow. lineupthree models are available: base, ls, and lt.  the base model is a stripped-down vinyl-seat work truck sold in small quantities. Base 4x2 retails for $24,941, while 4x4 goes for $27,857. Custom cloth front seatsthese base models come equipped with the vortec 4800 v8.  most people opt for the ls and lt models, which come with the vortec 5300 v8. Sold as packages, ls adds $6,164 to the base model prices, while lt adds $10,638 to the bottom line.  tahoe 2wd ls 31,105) and 4wd ls 34,021) come with a comfortable cloth interior and most of the features most of us want.  tahoe 2wd lt 35,579) and lt 4x4 38,495) come loaded with leather upholstery, power seats, premium ride suspension, onstar driver assistance, automatic climate control, and other features.  also available is a z71 model with a specially tuned off-road suspension with special shocks and jounce bumpers, skid plates, a locking rear differential, and a roof rack with lights.  other options include a power sliding sunroof package 1095) with homelink and the autoride suspension 700) with variable shock dampening. walkaroundconservative styling means the tahoe doesn't stand out, but it is an attractive truck. It shares much in common with the suburban and the silverado pickup. Pull door handles are easy to use.  at the rear, there's a choice of a traditional hatch with a flip-up window or panel doors, also known as barn doors or cargo doors. Choosing between them is a matter of lifestyle and personal preference. Cargo doors are standard on the base tahoe and optional on the ls and lt models; cargo doors are more convenient when towing and for other truck chores, and they make it easier to control a dog. The traditional hatch is made of aluminum for light weight; being able to open just the glass is often more convenient when loading groceries or outdoor gear, especially since it can be operated with the keyless remote. The automatic locking feature can be turned off by the dealer. interiortahoe's interior is comfortable, user-friendly, and attractive. Step-in height is lower than it is with pre-2000 models, making it easier to climb in and out. Controls are mounted within easy reach. Visibility is very good through big windows.  it's comfortable up front with nice cloth or leather seats, well-designed switchgear, and map lights that can be aimed. The cupholders are nicely designed and there's a place for a sunglasses case or wallet. Three power outlets in front and one in back deliver electricity for accessories.  it's also quite comfortable in the second row. Separate rear audio and heating and air conditioning controls are available. A pair of map lights flanks each dome light on the second and third row, a great feature when traveling or accessing gear.  folding the second-row seats down provides enormous cargo capacity, useful for outdoor activities and home-improvement weekends. Getting in and out of the third row isn't easy, however. And once back there, it's uncomfortable for an adult. The suburban is far more practical than the tahoe for carrying six or seven people on a regular basis.  in terms of flexibility, however, the tahoe's third-row seats comprise one of the best designs in the business. They can be quickly folded and flipped out of they way. Better yet, they're easy to remove: just fold down, flip up, grab the release handle, and roll them out on their wheels. They're not light, but one person can remove each of the two seats. Storing them in the garage is a good idea as it opens up more cargo space. This leaves room for five people and lots of cargo. There's plenty of room back there for a big dog. Reinstalling the third-row seats is a snap. driving impressionthe tahoe rides smoothly and it's stable and comfortable at higher speeds. It handles bumpy roads well. The z71 package seems to improve the ride quality on gravel and washboard surfaces.  a five-link independent rear suspension provides better ride and handling than the ford expedition. The front suspension is conventional in design, except for the springs. To save space, the tahoe uses torsion bars instead of coil springs. The tahoe's conventional ladder frame is fully boxed in the mid-section for maximum rigidity, while the front and rear portions are shaped by the same hydro-forming technique used to make corvette frames. This design is a key to the tahoe's excellent ride and handling. At the very front of the frame is a section that is designed to crush and absorb impacts in a crash.  optional premium ride self-leveling rear shocks 366) use hydraulics to help maintain trim height for better handling when hauling heavy cargo or pulling a trailer. Better is the optional autoride suspension 700), which electronically controls rear air shocks to provide real-time suspension damping. Press a button and gm's tow/haul mode, standard on these new suvs, holds the transmission in gear longer and shifts more abruptly to keep the transmission cooler.  the recirculating-ball steering provides good control and feedback, even if it falls short of the rack-and-pinion steering found on the ford explorer. Tahoe's power steering system is designed for durability by operating at a lower temperature range.  tahoe is relatively easy to park. With its shorter wheelbase, shorter rear overhang and taller ground clearance, the tahoe traverses gullies and other rugged terrain where the suburban scrapes bottom. Likewise, the tahoe is shorter and more maneuverable than the ford expedition. Even though the tahoe is an inch wider than the expedition, i find it easier to judge the distance between the tahoe's right front corner and a tree. We towed a heavily laden horse trailer without trailer brakes connected and were impressed with its braking ability. A dynamic proportioning system continuously balances the front and rear brakes for maximum braking without activating the abs.  chevy's small-block overhead-valve v8s are excellent. They rival competitors' overhead-cam engines for smoothness and efficiency, and deliver strong torque for towing. The 4. 8-liter version cranks out 275 horsepower, which is 20 more than the old 5. 7-liter motor. At the same time, it is quite efficient; the 2wd, 4. 8-liter version, for example, earns 20 mpg on the epa's highway mileage test. It delivers strong acceleration performance and burns regular unleaded fuel; the 5. 3-liter engine earns an epa-estimated 14/17 mpg city/highway.  the tahoe doesn't offer the off-road capability of a jeep grand cherokee, toyota land cruiser, or land rover discovery. The tahoe will, however, get to most of the places most of us want to go. Press the auto 4wd button for inconsistent road conditions. Power will only be sent to the rear wheels when there's good grip, but any loss of traction will cause power to be directed to the front wheels. This works well when patches of snow and ice are on the road. I like using auto 4wd on gravel roads where it seems to offer the best handling balance. Press the. summarychevrolet's tahoe makes a lot of sense for someone who wants a big sport-utility, but doesn't want to manhandle a suburban every day. We think the tahoe delivers a better driving experience than the ford expedition and some of its cargo-carrying ergonomics seem to have the edge. For many people, it's the ideal suv. model lineup2wd base 24,941); 2wd ls 31,105); 2wd lt 35,579); 4wd base 27,857); 4wd ls 34,021); 4wd lt 38,495). assembled injanesville, wisconsin. options as testedt. 2007 chevrolet equinox review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Improved interior, more safety features. introductiona solstice, not an equinox, is an event to celebrate. An equinox is by comparison a non-event, when light and dark are equal, when everything is just alright.  the chevrolet equinox may not represent the return of the sun, either, but it should be considerably brighter for '07, thanks to a bounty of improvements that really are worth celebrating. Instruments and controls are largely new, and the chassis settings revised for better ride and handling. New options include upgraded audio systems, a remote starter, and at last a navigation system integrated into the stereo.  these are welcome changes because we have not been enthralled with the equinox cabin.  equinox is chevrolet's answer to the ford escape, honda cr-v and toyota rav4. But equinox is bigger and roomier than any of these competitors, and has features that enhance its versatility. The rear seatbacks also recline for additional comfort. It's nearly 14 inches longer than ford escape and just three inches shorter than a chevy trailblazer. Its long wheelbase gives the equinox good stability and ride quality. However, equinox seats only five, because it does not offer a hopelessly cramped third row, as does the toyota rav4. Like escape, cr-v and rav4, the equinox is based on a passenger-car design but has an interior like a traditional suv. Therefore, industry observers and other car crazies call the equinox a crossover utility because it crosses over the line from truck to car. lineupthe 2007 chevy equinox comes in two trim levels: the basic ls and the better-appointed lt. Both are available with front-wheel drive (fwd) or all-wheel drive (awd). All models come with a 3. 4-liter v6 and five-speed automatic transmission.  equinox ls fwd 22,180) and awd 23,680) come with air conditioning; cruise control; tilt steering; cloth upholstery; a fold-flat front passenger seat; a multi-flex 60/40 split rear bench seat that folds, slides, and reclines; six-speaker am/fm/cd audio; and power windows, mirrors, and locks with remote keyless entry. Tires are bridgestone p235/65 all-season radials on 16-inch steel wheels. Added as standard on '07 models are a driver information center and new safety features. Options for the ls include an upgraded audio system with mp3 capability 135), onstar communications 1,045), deep-tinted glass 275), and a tow package 350). An engine block heater 50) and carpeted floor mats 40) are also available.  lt fwd 22,970) and awd 24,470) add fog lights, carpeted floor mats, deep tinted glass, and 16-inch aluminum wheels. Mirrors, door handles, and roof-rack side rails are body-color rather than charcoal or black. Optional side-impact and head-curtain airbags 395) come with a rollover sensor, so they can provide head and torso protection in a rollover as well as a side impact. walkaroundthe 2007 chevy equinox is aerodynamically smoother, thanks to a subtle re-shaping of front and rear fascias as well as the rear spoiler. From the front, equinox still looks the part of a chevy truck, with its requisite single-bar grille sporting a large gold chevrolet bow-tie emblem. But the black mask overlapping the front bumper has shrunken and retreated, which we find a subtle but worthwhile aesthetic improvement.  it's harder to see the difference in the rear spoiler. And in side view, equinox looks pretty much the same as before. That's good, because we've liked equinox from that angle since it debuted for '05.  in that broadside view, equinox looks quite a bit different from the rest of the chevy truck family. The roof pillars and the sheetmetal above the windows but below the roof seem to be extra-thick, imparting a feeling of extra solidity and strength, important for a truck made on a car platform. Equinox is based on a car-type platform, with unit-body construction rather than body on frame for better ride and handling. interiorinside, where the people live, work and ride, is where the chevy equinox shines when compared to some of its competitors. Up front, equinox carries flexible net storage pockets on both sides of the center tunnel. The center console/armrest has a small storage cubby and a coin holder for toll money. Dual cupholders pop out of the end of it, but they're flimsy and get in the way of the handbrake. The armrest flips up, providing better access to an open floor console that's a perfect place for a purse, briefcase or tote bag. The floor-mounted cupholder works well, while slots farther to the rear holds cds angled forward for easy selection.  the equinox cabin is a clean and functional design. That said, some of the materials and control interfaces we found inside last year's equinox seemed to us less than bright. Window switches are now lighted. Also new for '07 is a standard driver information center that includes more than 20 personalization and vehicle information features, such as trip odometer, fuel range, outside temperature display and door locking programs.  the rear seat rides on a track that allows it to slide back and forth up to eight inches, to bring kids or briefcases closer to the front, or to provide extra legroom for tall second-row passengers. With the rear seat full forward, there's 35. 7 cubic feet of cargo space behind it. Gm calls this innovative feature the multi-flex rear seat.  because the rear seatback is split 60/40, equinox can transport two rear passengers along with long cargo items. The front passenger seat folds flat, further extending cargo room length. When folded, the hard front seatback can be used as a table or desktop. Rear passengers also enjoy a 12-volt power outlet and, new for '07, a fold-down center armrest with two additional cupholders. Rear head restraints were downscaled last year, improving rearward visibility for the driver. driving impressionchevrolet's 3. 4-liter unit is an old pushrod-overhead-valve design that lacks modern features such as variable valve timing and variable-length intake runners (although it does feature hydraulic roller lifters, just like a corvette). It feels strained when pushed at high rpm. Still, equinox delivers good acceleration under most circumstances, and it's smooth enough. Epa fuel economy estimates are improved somewhat for '07, at 19/26 mpg city/highway for front-drive models and 18/25 for the awd version.    the v6 engine is aided considerably by the five-speed automatic transmission. Chevrolet says the equinox can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 8. 5 seconds, which should be adequate performance for most families. And while it may not excel at acceleration, equinox is rated to pull a 3500-pound trailer, the same as the more powerful escape and rav4 v6s.  its long wheelbase and 3800-pound heft give the equinox a decent ride, making it a suitable companion for long trips. Its handling is responsive and it's easy to modulate the brakes for smooth stops.  the equinox has good road feel in highway driving, yet steering effort is low at low speeds for easier maneuvering in tight parking lots. The steering ratio is variable, and the equinox uses electric, rather than hydraulic, power steering. We don't think the average driver will feel the difference between this system and more conventional hydraulics, and that's a good thing. Unlike a hydraulic servo, the electric booster doesn't use engine power, resulting in slightly better fuel economy.  stabilitrak electronic stability control helps drivers maintain c.

2004 chevrolet tahoe review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. When size large is just right. introductionthe chevrolet tahoe is america's best-selling full-size suv. One of the reasons is that it seems to be exactly the right size suv for a lot of americans. It's big enough to haul busloads of people and boatloads of cargo, yet it's more manageable than the super-size suburban.  tahoe carries more cargo than a compact or mid-size suv such as the chevy trailblazer or ford explorer. It can carry five passengers and their gear at the same time. Third-row seats are available to increase the capacity to seven passengers, or up to nine when equipped with bench seats throughout. The tahoe makes for a stable towing platform and pulling a trailer is no problem with the optional 5. 3-liter v8. Yet the tahoe is far more maneuverable than a suburban, important in crowded parking lots, underground garages, or when parallel parking, and it will fit into more garages.  on the road, the tahoe is smooth and stable, a rock. It has plenty of power and its brakes work well. The cabin is comfortable and familiar, friendly and functional, particularly after improvements that were made for 2003. Turn off the highway and the tahoe handles gravel, rugged two-tracks, mud, and snow. In any kind of driving, it's a great choice for someone who needs real carrying capacity.  improvements to the tahoe for 2004 further enhance its safety. New hydroboost brakes provide power assist even if the engine stalls or is turned off. A tire-pressure monitor is now standard. New options include electronic traction control and 17-inch all-weather tires. A major upgrade was made to the tahoe for 2003 for increased safety and reliability: gm's stabilitrak electronic stability program became available for improved control on slippery surfaces. New airbag systems were designed to better protect children and adults of various sizes. Adjustable pedals became available, enhancing comfort and safety for drivers of smaller stature. The brakes were improved.  tahoe dazzles its passengers with entertainment possibilities. Xm satellite radio delivers cd-quality music, radio, sports, and other programming coast to coast. A rear dvd entertainment system with wireless headphones keeps the kids busy. lineupchevy tahoe is available in ls and lt trim, plus there's a z71 off-road package. Two v8 engines are available, the vortec 4800 and the vortec 5300. More important is the difference in torque: the 4800 develops 295 pounds-feet of torque, vs. 330 pounds-feet for the 5300, both at 4000 rpm. Tahoe ls is available with 4wd 37,000). The 5. 3-liter v8 is optional 700). Z71 includes an off-road suspension with gas shocks and off-road jounce bumpers; heavy-duty locking rear differential; 3. 73 rear axle ratio; skid plates for the oil pan, differentials, and transfer case; high-capacity air cleaner; removable front air dam; tubular assist steps; painted front bumper; panted rear step bumper with pad; color-keyed grille and door handles; round fog lamps; roof rack with cross rails; dark gray lower rocker moldings; wheel flares; trailer package with heavy-duty hitch platform, seven-lead wiring connector and external transmission oil cooler; and p265/70r17 on/off-road tires on 17-inch cast and machined aluminum wheels. Z71 also includes many of the same comfort and convenience items as the lt: the driver information center; bose nine-speaker stereo with rear audio controls, dual headphone jacks, and steering-wheel controls, power heated mirrors with turn signals and ground illumination; onstar; leather seating surfaces; power front bucket seats with heat and memory; adjustable head restraints; and an inboard armrest. walkaroundchevy tahoe is an attractive truck, though it doesn't stand out with its conservative and familiar styling. It is essentially a shortened version of the chevy suburban and shares much in common with it.  the tahoe is the same width as the suburban. The tahoe is more than 22 inches shorter than the suburban and nearly 9 inches shorter than the ford expedition. The tahoe is nearly 11 inches shorter than the stretched, midsize chevy trailblazer ext (and about 5 inches longer than the standard trailblazer), but the tahoe is 4 inches wider than the trailblazer ext.  big outside mirrors afford an excellent view rearward. The mirrors on lt and z71 models feature puddle lamps that light up the perimeter. Press a button and they fold in for parking in narrow places. Heating elements keep off frost and ice. The left mirror automatically dims to reduce headlamp glare. Choosing between them is a matter of lifestyle and personal preference. On the ls, cargo doors are standard, and the hatch a $250 option. On the lt, the hatch is standard. Cargo doors are more convenient when towing and for other truck chores, and they make it easier to control a dog. The traditional hatch is made of aluminum for light weight; being able to open just the glass is often more convenient when loading groceries or outdoor gear, especially since it can be operated with the keyless remote. New seats, a new center console, a new instrument panel, new hvac controls, and refinement throughout resulted in an improved environment for driver and passengers.  there's plenty of headroom and legroom in the tahoe. The front seats are big, wide and, in the lt, fully adjustable. Optional seat heaters are easy to turn on and adjust. Switchgear is nicely designed and easy to operate. The map lights can be aimed. Rubber lined cubbies on the center console offer places to organize odds and ends. The ashtray can be removed to reveal another nice cubby for sunglasses and stuff. Cup holders are well designed. Three power outlets in front and one in back deliver electricity for accessories. Visibility is very good through big windows, but we'd like the option of an electronic park-assist feature to help maneuver this big rig in tight quarters.  we appreciated the available power-adjustable pedals. Pressing a button moves the brake and accelerator pedals for an optimum driving position. This allows a shorter driver to move farther from the steering wheel where the airbag is located. The tilt steering could use finer adjustments, but by adjusting the height and tilt of the seat it's possible for drivers of all sizes to find a comfortable position. Steering wheel-mounted controls add convenience and enable the driver to personalize functions.  we love the lt's electronically controlled, automatic three-zone hvac system for its sophistication and ease of use. Change the driver's temperature, for example, and a panel displays the new temperature for a few moments, then display's the passenger's temperature, then displays the driver's temperature again. It's easy to operate the controls with the big knobs and a clear led display that's easy to understand. Rear electronic temperature controls improve comfort for second- and third-row passengers and pets.  the standard setup is a manual-control hvac system with three zones that allows temperature differentials of 30 degrees between driver and passenger. It also works quite well. The third zone allows manual control of the rear air conditioning. Second-row bucket seats (. 2008 chevrolet equinox review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Onstar has been added as standard equipment. And an anti-trailer sway function has been incorporated into the stabilitrak electronic stability control system for more secure towing. These changes come on the heels of cabin improvements that began with the 2007 models, along with improved safety features. The equinox has been improving since its introduction as a 2005 model.  the lineup has been expanded for 2008 with the addition of two new models: the luxury-oriented equinox ltz and the performance-oriented equinox sport.  a 3. 4-liter v6 is the standard engine, paired with a five-speed automatic transmission, which get an epa-rated 17/24 miles per gallon city/highway. Equinox sport gets a 3. 6-liter v6 and six-speed automatic transmission and gets an epa-rated 16/24 mpg.  all equinox models are available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. On the other hand, all-wheel drive makes the equinox perform better on snow and ice.  the equinox ltz features leather-trimmed seats with seat heaters. A navigation system is optional.  the sport model is a different kind of equinox, with a more aggressive look and sporting cabin. The sport also gets hydraulic (as opposed to electric) power steering, a tighter suspension, 18x8-inch polished, forged alloy wheels with 50-series tires, aerodynamic spoilers and rocker moldings, dual chrome exhaust tips, gauge package, and sport seats.  the equinox is chevy truck's answer to the ford escape, honda cr-v, and toyota rav4 compact suvs. However, equinox is bigger and roomier than any of these competitors. Equinox is big enough that its dimensions blur the line between compact and midsize sport utilities. It's nearly 14 inches longer than ford escape and just three inches shorter than a chevy trailblazer. Its long wheelbase gives the equinox good stability and ride quality. However, equinox seats only five, because it does not offer a hopelessly cramped third row, as does the toyota rav4. Like escape, cr-v, and rav4, the equinox is based on a passenger-car design but has an interior like a traditional suv. Therefore, industry observers and other car crazies call the equinox a crossover utility because it crosses over the line from truck to car.  this is a versatile vehicle when it comes to moving people and cargo. The rear seatbacks recline for additional comfort. Tires are bridgestone p235/65 all-season radials on 16-inch alloy wheels. A driver information center comes standard. Options for ls include an upgraded audio system with mp3 capability 135), engine block heater 75), carpeted floor mats 40) and side curtain airbags 395).  lt fwd 23,905) and awd 25,550) add carpeted floor mats, deep tinted glass, power mirrors, leather-wrap steering wheel, and ipod/mp3/rds audio system. Door handles and roof-rack side rails are body-color rather than charcoal or black. Option package 2lt 1,325) adds fog lights, auto-dimming interior rearview mirror with temperature display and compass, six-way power driver seat adjuster with manual lumbar adjustment and map pocket, remote start, and 17-inch aluminum wheels. Options for lt include a 6cd audio system upgrade 435), xm satellite radio 200), a tilt-and-slide sunroof 695), a remote starter 190), luggage rack crossbars 150), 17-inch chromed aluminum wheels, and pioneer sound system 1200).  ltz fwd 27,810) and awd 29,435) add leather seats, front-seat heaters, chrome-clad aluminum wheels, pioneer seven-speaker sound system with subwoofer, body-color bumpers with charcoal trim and chrome inserts on the roof rails, body-color mirrors, side-curtain airbags, xm radio. Options include a tow package 350) navigation/radio upgrade 2,145), dvd rear-seat entertainment system 995), and sunroof 695).  sport fwd 28,115) and awd 29,740) gets the bigger v6 and six-speed automatic, a sports suspension, 18-inch forged alloy wheels with 50-series tires, aerodynamic spoilers and rocker moldings, dual chrome exhaust tips, gauge package, and sport seats. Options include the tow package, audio upgrades, side curtain airbags, and sunroof.  safety features include antilock brakes, stabilitrak electronic stability control, tire pressure monitor; dual-stage driver and front-passenger airbags. Side-impact and head-curtain airbags are optional 395) and come with a rollover sensor, so they can provide head and torso protection in a rollover as well as a side impact; they come standard on the ltz model. walkaroundthe chevy equinox is aerodynamically smooth, thanks to a subtle shaping of front and rear fascias as well as the rear spoiler. From the front, equinox still looks the part of a chevy truck, with its requisite single-bar grille sporting a large gold chevrolet bow-tie emblem.  sport models have a more menacing look akin to ss versions of the trailblazer and 2006 silverado.  in the broadside view, equinox looks different from the rest of the chevy truck family. The roof pillars and the sheetmetal above the windows but below the roof seem to be extra-thick, imparting a feeling of extra solidity and strength, important for a truck made on a car platform. The quality of some of the materials and control interfaces in the 2006 equinox was disappointing. The 2008 equinox sport gets new gauges.  rear-passenger legroom is excellent. The rear seat rides on a track that allows it to slide back and forth up to eight inches, to bring kids or briefcases closer to the front, or to provide extra legroom for tall second-row passengers. With the rear seat completely forward, there's 35. 7 cubic feet of cargo space behind it. Gm calls this innovative feature the multi-flex rear seat.  because the rear seatback is split 60/40, equinox can transport two rear passengers along with long cargo items. When folded, the hard front seatback can be used as a table or desktop.  rear passengers enjoy a 12-volt power outlet and a fold-down center armrest with two additional cupholders.  cubby storage: up front, equinox carries flexible net storage pockets on both sides of the center tunnel. The floor-mounted cupholder works well, while slots farther to the rear holds cds angled forward for easy selection.  the sport interior is trimmed in dark ebony, with the requisite leather-wrapped steering wheel and more heavily bolstered front seats. All the practical flexibility of the regular equinox remains, however. driving impressionthe 3. 4-liter v6 used by the chevy equinox delivers good acceleration under most circumstances, and it's smooth enough. It feels strained when pushed at high rpm, however. The equinox is a big box for 210 pound-feet of torque.  the 3. 4-liter v6 is an old, iron-block, pushrod.

2011 chevrolet malibu review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. A solid midsize sedan as good as toyota and honda. introductionthe chevrolet malibu midsize sedan blends a smooth ride with responsive handling, a quiet interior, effective crash performance and noteworthy build quality. A new fuel-saving 6-speed automatic transmission with tapshift manual control is standard on all 2011 malibu models. Onstar 9. 0, the latest version with improved voice recognition, comes standard with six months of directions and connections service with turn-by-turn navigation. The seats are very comfortable, with plenty of front-seat room. The back seats offer generous legroom. Trunk space is tight, however.  we found the malibu pleasant to drive. It's smooth and comfortable, striking a nice balance between well-controlled handling and an even ride. It has with plenty of power when equipped with the v6.  choosing among the best midsize sedans largely comes down to nitpicking, splitting hairs and personal preferences. The camry and accord may have an edge on resale value, but they're also likely to come with higher price tags. In any case, we don't see the gap between this chevrolet and the imports that we used to see. Malibu, camry and accord, and the ford fusion are all superb midsize sedans. A 3. 6-liter v6 is optional and it comes with hydraulic power steering.  malibu ls 21,975) comes with air conditioning, cloth upholstery, power height-adjustable driver's seat with lumbar adjustment, cruise control, 60/40 split-folding rear seat, power windows, power mirrors, power locks, remote keyless entry, tilt/telescoping steering wheel, am/fm/cd/mp3 stereo with xm satellite radio and auxiliary input jack, outside temperature display, automatic headlights, six months of onstar 9. 0 directions and connections service with turn-by-turn navigation, and p225/50r17 tires on steel wheels.  malibu lt 22,825) adds steering-wheel audio controls, ambient lighting, body-color mirrors, more bright trim, carpeted floor mats, new- for-2011 bright aluminum wheels, and a longer option list. A long wheelbase provides ample interior room for occupants and a smooth, quiet ride.  the body design is bold, long and sleek, with an especially appealing roofline that looks like it belongs on a luxury car. The bodysides are completely clean and uncluttered, and the twin round taillamps pay homage to the corvette. The dual-port grille is a contemporary chevrolet design cue, which gives the malibu a distinctive look, and distinction is an important goal of the midsize sedan designer. Everything is within arm's reach and easy to operate. This design is brought into the 21st century with wood and metallic trim and a very pleasing blue-on-white instrumentation graphic treatment that's flooded with blue light at night.  less noticeable are thoughtful features such as ambient lighting. A feature associated with expensive luxury cars, and recently popularized by mercedes and bmw, ambient lighting helps the driver and front passenger find secondary controls and items around the center console. A cubby on top of the dash is convenient for smaller items and is a very useful feature.  cloth, faux-suede and leather interior options are available. The standard interiors are monotone, but several two-tone interior combinations are available, including a dramatic black-and-saddle leather combination that's very attractive.  we found the leather seats in the malibu ltz quite comfortable. Piping in a contrasting tone dresses them up. The front bucket seats are somewhere between sumptuous and luscious in the way they look and the way they sit, and are very comfortable and supportive.  the long wheelbase affords each occupant plenty of room, and there is ample headroom and legroom in the rear compartment for six-foot-plus passengers. The backs of the front seats are dished out to add knee room. The rear seatbacks flip down to provide a pass-through to the trunk.  while the trunk has 15. 1 cubic feet of cargo volume, the stylish rear pillars are pushed to the far back of the car, creating a small trunk opening that won't accept large boxes.  cubby storage includes a dashtop storage bin, door cubbies, and seatback pockets. We've never cared for roll-up sliding covers on center consoles due to their ability to attract crumbs, dust and debris. Ambient lighting for the overhead console and door-pull pockets adds convenience.  overall, the malibu interior is attractive and comfortable. The quality of the interior materials is good. We think the malibu's interior compares well to the cabin of the honda accord. In fact, it may be more attractive, though the material on the steering wheel hub and the hard plastic on the lower dash aren't as nice. However, the malibu has an attractive leather shift boot when the leather upholstery is chosen, and the accord does not.  every malibu comes with satellite radio and the latest version of onstar with turn-by-turn navigation. However, there's no gps navigation system, nor is there a back-up camera. Chevrolet says many people prefer to use their portable gps units and relatively few want to pay for an oem navigation system. We've heard that view from respectable drivers, but we prefer in-dash units. In fact, we found it easier and less confusing to make adjustments in the malibu than in a comparably equipped (without navigation) honda accord. The honda seemed less intuitive and convenient, the chevrolet seemed more intuitive and convenient. Unlike the accord, the malibu has the audio controls at the top, which is better because people tend to fiddle with sound systems more than temperature controls.  remote starting is available. This lets the driver start the car by pressing a button on the key fob from the comfort of the house on wintry mornings, allowing the car to warm up while the driver sits inside sipping coffee. That same feature can be used with air conditioning on sweltering summer afternoons. driving impressionthe suspension soaked up rough mississippi farm roads with grace and competence, and kept the car straight and flat without a lot of pitching and body roll. On pockmarked chicago streets, though, we did experience some jolts in the rear suspension, but they were pretty rough streets.  the steering is reasonably quick and precise, but without much real road feel. The thoroughly modern v6 has 252 horsepower and delivers performance that is good, if not sparkling. Most families will find no shortage of power or performance.

Among them: the Ford Taurus, Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, as well as the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, and Nissan Altima. Its styling looks fresh, and it is, having been sharpened when the Impala was last redesigned for 2006. 2008 Chevrolet Impala Review This car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale
